Clinical services

We specialize in a wide range of clinical services catered to individuals with speech, language,  and cognitive difficulties, as well as swallowing disorders.

Aphasia is a language disorder that happens due to brain damage, as after a stroke or brain tumor. It can affect all aspects of communication including speaking, understanding spoken language, reading comprehension, and writing skills.

Brain injuries can impact every aspect of an individual's life, including how they speak or communicate, think and process information, and interact with others. Daily tasks can become overwhelming but speech therapy can help.

Difficulty swallowing, or "dysphagia" can occur as a result of stroke, brain injury or dementia. Common signs of dysphagia include throat clearing or coughing during meals, especially immediately after eating or drinking.

Mild cognitive impairment is an early form of memory loss. People with MCI report difficulty finding words, making decisions, and completing multi-step tasks.

Dementia

Dementia is a progressive neurological condition characterized by a decline in cognitive function, often impacting memory, reasoning, and communication.

In addition to the well known physical changes, many individuals with Parkinson's Disease experience changes in speech, thinking skills and/or swallowing ability. Speech changes can include decreased volume, causing others to ask for repetition or complain that they can't understand.

A stroke, also known as a "brain attack", can cause significant changes in speech, language, and communication skills, as well as swallowing ability. Symptoms range from very mild to very severe, and may or may not be accompanied by physical impairments.

We provide a supportive and educational environment to help families navigate challenges, improve communication, and strengthen bonds.

The treatment process

After a short call to share initial concerns and ask questions, we will schedule an evaluation; which includes an interview, formal and informal testing, and collaborative goal-setting.

We believe in a holistic, person-centered approach, which means taking into consideration an individual's unique strengths and values to create holistic goals leading to better health outcomes.

Together, we will identify a plan of care that feels right to you and your family.

Liz has been an incredible resource as I navigate the difficult journey as caregiver for my husband with cognitive decline. She offers support, comfort, strategies , ideas and education.  Her warmth, knowledge and foresight have helped both of us to move forward with dignity and hope.
